Cloud Cult Biography
Artist is a Minnesota-based alt-rock collective who weave a poignant ecological message into songs of personal tragedy and loss. Begun in the early `90s as the solo project of Craig Minowa, the band were initially a studio focused act as Minowa attended to raising a family and writing grants for environmental causes. With the sudden death of his son in 2002, Minowa became ever more reclusive, writing a large body of songs to work through his loss. With time, the band morphed into a successful touring act, incorporating a live multi-media experience featuring video projectionists and performance artists, and new permanent members, drummer Dan Greenwood and cellist Sarah Young. Devotedly eco-centric in their practices, the band tour in a biodiesel van, print their CDs on recycled materials, and use geothermal energy to power their recording sessions. Artist scored their biggest success in 2008 when their song "Lucky Today" was featured in an animated commercial for Esurance.
