Esperanza Spalding Biography
Emerging from the Boston jazz scene, Artist established herself as a wildly flourishing and flexible talent in the 2000s. She plays both acoustic and electric bass, sings in three languages (Spanish, English, and Portuguese), composes, acts as producer on her recordings, and has worked with no less than Patti Austin, Pat Metheny, and Dave Samuels. Her music combines aspects of post-bop with Latin and Brazilian pop/jazz in a manner that is both artistic and engaging.
