Damage CD (2002)

First Day CD (1993)
The pooling of Sylvian's silken vocals--not to mention his multi-instrumental talents--with the fiery dexterity of Fripp gave all indications of a marriage made in progressive heaven. THE FIRST DAY takes some time to gel, but it's worth the wait. Fripp lays down some of his most scorching licks in ages, running through a broad ...

Brondesbury Tapes (1968) CD (2001)
Considering that Giles, Giles & Fripp's original album sold about 500 copies, the very existence of this 70-minute CD is a source of astonishment as well as delight. Comprised of privately made tapes of the legendary progressive/pop/rock trio -- all home recordings, on a Revox stereo reel-to-reel recorder, that made lots of use of ...

Cheerful Insanity of Giles Giles & Fripp CD (1968)
This pre-King Crimson aggregate involves the talents of Michael Giles (drums/vocals), Peter Giles (bass/vocals), and Robert Fripp (guitar/vocals) accompanied by a plethora of studio musicians -- most notably keyboardist Nicky Hopkins and backing vocalists the Breakaways. By any standards The Cheerful Insanity of Giles, Giles & Fripp is one of the more eclectic albums to have been issued during the psychedelic rock movement of the late '60s. The album was initially issued ...

Damage CD (1994)
The energies transmitted by the preceding studio set First Day with Fripp meant the time was right for a tour, and this live album came about as a result. The Fripp-produced original was released at the end of '94 as a limited edition, and it may well be your best option as an intro to the pair's work. As with Japan's Oil on Canvas, the set is introduced with the title track (which sounds more like a studio recording) and concluded with the "First Day" (wisely omitted from the studio album). "Wave" and "River Man" are beautifully reinvented, the latter with slide guitar. The 2001 reissue is Sylvian's take on events, and in his over picky meddling he substituted the spell-binding "Darshan" for the cumbersome "Jean the Birdman," which doesn't work as well live. The original is harder to find, but both the disc and artwork are superior in delivery. ~ Kelvin Hayes
Personnel: David Sylvian (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Pat Mastelotto (drums, percussion).
