Dreamchasing CD (2003)
Jeanine CD discography Dreamchasing, released on Mute's Future Groove sublabel, follows several singles from the Netherlands' Jamez that were scattered throughout the tail-end of the late '90s and the early 2000s. The respected producer has worked under several aliases and, under the name Jamez, has also remixed the likes of Paperclip People and X-Press 2. Though Dreamchasing could easily have been a quick cash-in on glories past, the album offers a set of new tracks which touch upon everything that has brought Jamez to this point in his career, without relying too much on his old ideas. At his best -- as heard on the dynamic "Thanx," and the vocal track "Energy of Life," Jamez subverts the qualities that incite the gag reflex in discerning dance music fans who detest all things trance. ~ Andy Kellman
Recording information: Benelux.
Personnel: Jamez (DJ); Jeanine, Jon (background vocals).
Personnel: Jeanine (background vocals).

Bring On The Beats! CD (2005)
Jeanine albums Austin-based garage rockers the Ugly Beats! embrace the sound of the 1960s on Bring on the Beats!, their scorching 12-song debut. Recalling pieces of the Kinks and the Who, as well elements of the Easybeats -- a band the outfit pays tribute to via the cover "I'll Make You Happy" -- the Texas outfit delivers a one-two punch right from the start with the organ-inflected, exuberant "KO'd." If the latter is easily the band's best moment, the spooky guitar fuzz that coats "Girl on the Brain" is pretty damn cool. Firecracking frontman Joe Emery is a garage rock maestro as evident on the sonic threat "I'll Walk Away," which sounds like it wouldn't be out of place on the Nuggets box set. ~ John D. Luerssen
Personnel: Jeanine (organ, tambourine).
Recording information: Joe's House.
