Kellie Coffey songs With her big, brassy voice, Kellie Coffey could easily have been a Celine Dion-style pop diva, or even a Broadway-oriented Linda Eder-esque star. Instead, she lends her prodigious pipes to country music, and is rewarded with a hit album. Bold-stroke power-ballad anthems are Coffey's stock in trade, and she lays into them like she was born for it. Coffey is clearly no pop-tart tool of the Nashville hit machine; she has co-writing credit on most of the tunes on WHEN YOU LIE NEXT TO ME, and there's obviously a consistent aesthetic thread running through the album (for which equal credit must be given to producer/guitarist Dan Huff). Besides the usual pop and rock influences that are de rigeur, there's the occasional touch of R&B in Coffey's contemporary country sound.
