Minutemen Biography
California's the Artist were one of the first bands to expand upon the limited possibilities of the hardcore punk genre. By combining the energy, attack, and attitude of punk rock with styles as far reaching as jazz, funk, and country, the trio built up a devoted following from 1980 on, while simultaneously influencing a huge array of bands. The Artist's career was cut tragically short when singer/guitarist D. Boon died in a car accident in 1985. Bassist Mike Watt and drummer George Hurley went on to form fIREHOSE in 1987.
