Moral Crux CD discography It was inevitable that Moral Crux would finally sign with Lookout! Records. Although far more politically motivated than, say, the Mr. T Experience, the Oregon quartet's deceptively sweet punk-pop sound is entirely in keeping with the label's aesthetic. That's probably the point, actually; no one who doesn't agree with their political beliefs is ever gonna subject themselves to the hectoring noise punk of Crass, for example, but it's easy to imagine that some blink-182-lovin' suburban teenager might be drawn to the catchy sweetness of a tune like "Yesterday's Kisses" long enough to be exposed to the more thoughtful "Bomb for the Mainstream" or the Monkees-quoting "Status Symbol Land." Fans of the Queers, the Fastbacks, or Screeching Weasel, on the other hand, will love them just for the bubble-punk bounce of the tunes. ~ Stewart Mason Personnel: Jody Waymire (guitar). Recording information: Sonic Iguana (05/17/1998-05/30/1998). Melodic Punk

Moral Crux albums Released in 1994, the excellently titled I Was a Teenage Teenager continues and heightens Moral Crux's uniformly strong string of political punk-pop albums by toughening up the sound a bit -- instead of the Queers-like bubble-punk of the previous ...And Nothing But the Truth, the noisier songs here are closer to the garagey sound of the Fastbacks. (The Undertones, who the Oregon boys salute with a faithfully reverent cover of the immortal "Teenage Kicks," are another touchstone.) That ...

Side Effects Of Thinking CD (2000)

Apparently, poor distribution and a lack of money prevented Side Effects of Thinking from being an instant classic upon its original 1990 release. Although this album doesn't exactly live up to the hype that Panic Button provides, Moral Crux was ahead of their time as they provided an angst-filled edge of pop-punk. Accompanied by an aggressive West Coast influence of early ...

If the Queers had been more enamored of London Calling-era Clash than the early Ramones, they might have turned out something like Portland's Moral Crux. The 14 songs on ...And Nothing But the Truth are super-catchy two-minute three-chord punk-pop with sweetly ingenuous, boyish vocals and politely distorted guitars. But instead of enthusing about the joys of cars, girls, and junk culture, ...

Lookout's Four on the Floor budget sampler brings together four songs apiece from four punk-revival bands: Screeching Weasel, Moral Crux, Enemy You, and the Teen Idols. It's a cheap way to make a passing acquaintance with those groups' styles. ~ Steve Huey Recording information: Roof Brothers Studios, Everyville, CA; Sonic Iquana.
