EP CD (2009)
My Superhero discography My Superhero's EP is what they wanted Station 1 to be- a rock album. Once the dust settled with a record contract gone wrong and dropping a couple members, My Superhero was in limbo. That's when original members Brian Gilmore (lead vocals/bass) Huey Huynh (guitar) and Chris Clawson (drums/vocals) got together with a long time friend from the neighborhood in Anaheim- Ean Brown (lead guitar) to write what the felt was the best material ever produced by the band. Self funded, recorded, and released... and it sounds exactly how they wanted ...

Solid State 14 CDs (1998)
My Superhero songs Take the punky but melodic sound of Green Day, then add a skanking backbeat and subtract the phony British accent. What you end up with is something very much like My Superhero, a fine young California ska band. Singer and chief songwriter Brian Gilmore has a truly winning way with a tune; songs like the title track and "Going Somewhere" flow effortlessly on waves of delicious melody. His lyrical grasp is a bit less sure, however -- he's obviously hoping no one will call him on lines like "Right now your life's like a couch/Inside a house where no one wants to be." But the musical pleasures are more than enough to distract from the occasional verbal clunker. There's a great, raucous cover version of "Groovy Kind of Love" and some thoroughly charming Moog playing courtesy of keyboardist Mike Berault on "Another Kind." It's unusual to find a debut effort from a punk-ska band that sounds this good. ~ Rick Anderson

Take Warning: Songs of Operation Ivy CD (1997)
My Superhero CD discography A decade after the inception of seminal ska-revival, an impressively diverse roster of bands endeavors to doff their alternative/punk/speed-reggae hats to Berkeley's Operation Ivy. Whiffs of the musically mod from rap to neo-swing are present, from Reel Big Fish's yelling-in-the-street-sound on "Unity" to "Sound System," by the hip militia, Cherry Poppin' Daddies. The indecipherable lyrics and long-held notes on My Superhero's "Big City" don't duplicate the frenzied vocals on the original version, although Pocket Lent's pristine "Bankshot" is a suitably energetic, simplistic sample of what made Ivy a sensation. We assume bands like Green Day and Dance Hall Crashers literally would not exist without the capabilities of Ivy's self-proclaimed allegiance to the Clash, yet in exactly this spirit of tribute we hear from the Aquabats, the Hippos, Teen Heroes, Home Grown, and the ever-fun Long Beach BDub All-Stars (stuffed with ex-members of Sublime). In many ways a perfect way to inject a diverse sound into ska, which needs more than its fun simple self, sometimes, to stay alive. ~ Becky Byrkit
