Ndidi Onukwulu songs Recorded in six days at Black Box - "a studio near Angers where we could all live and vibrate together"- during sessions that produced seventeen songs in total, twelve of which are featured here This album benefits from the presence of Craig Street in the cabin. "He was very enthusiastic about the project right from the beginning. He listened to my ideas and helped me explore all my abilities." Things About Comin' My Way: A Tribute to the Music of the Mississippi Sheiks CD (2009)
Ndidi Onukwulu CD discography The Mississippi Sheiks were a short-lived but popular acoustic string band that recorded approximately 70 songs during the first half of the 1930s before receding into history. Built around guitarist/singer Walter Vinson and fiddler Lonnie Chatmon, with other musicians (notably Lonnie's guitarist brothers Bo Carter and Sam Chatmon), the Sheiks left their influence on numerous folk, country, blues, and even rock performers in later decades -- their best-known song, "Sitting on Top of the World," was recorded by a long list of artists including Howlin' Wolf, Ray Charles, Chet Atkins, Cream, Bob Dylan, and the Grateful Dead. For this ...

Modern Currencies CD
Ndidi Onukwulu albums After pleasing fans with the dance-rock feel on "Understanding the New Violence," this Toronto-area group has returned with more of a heavier, guitar-oriented sound. The quartet makes the most of a winding, indie-rock style nugget with "Dark Horse" which sets this album off in a great direction. Big but not over the top, the song's chorus and fabulous homestretch is a forerunner of what's to ensue. The soft-then-loud approach also enables a tune like "Hideaway" to be another early pleaser, although this one leans more towards the dance-rock feel as drummer Jon Drew occasionally goes overboard on the hi-hat. Perhaps what works best on Modern Currencies is how the momentum is never stifled, especially with the gorgeous "New Cities" that sounds a bit like a blending of the Killers, U2 and Joy Division that opens up with strong guitar work for the homestretch. Things take a slight detour with the murky and challenging "Out of ...
