Neneh Cherry Biography
Daughter of jazz trumpeter Don and older sister of singer/songwriter Eagle Eye, Swedish-born singer Artist first recorded as part of Rip, Rig and Panic, a challenging British avant-jazz-funk band of the early '80s. When that group dissolved, Cherry and several other members reorganized as Float Up CP, releasing one album in 1985. Three years later, Cherry reinvented herself with the far more commercial, yet still adventurous, solo debut RAW LIKE SUSHI. Her fearless combination of rap, pop, jazz and sexual forthrightness was a critical and commercial success, but after one more album, 1992's HOMEBREW, Cherry apparently retired from music.
