Best Of Joe Hall CD (1999)
Paul Quarrington CD discography Travelling Without Deodorant is the definitive Joe Hall retrospective, spanning the Canadian singer/songwriter and funnyman's entire canon, and including a few previously unreleased live gems. Hall always seemed to be hitchhiking where the careers of Lee Hazlewood, Jimmy Buffet, and Frank Zappa crossed. This enjoyable retrospective makes that clear, with material like "Whiskey Talking" and "Lulu [Let's Go Out Dancing]," (both from 1980s Rancho Banano), the raggedy (and in glorious bad taste) tin drum sound of 1978's "Here Comes the Third World," and a live version of the ragged classic "Punk Lunch," complete with snatches of Hall's famously eccentric and often very funny stage chatter. A must for fans and Canadians. ~ Johnny Loftus
