I Thought About You CD (1997)
Payton Crossley music CDs I Thought About You, Christy Baron's first album, demonstrated that a singer doesn't need the massive chops of Dianne Reeves or Dee Dee Bridgewater in order to deliver a convincing jazz vocal date. Instead of going for hard bop or providing a lot of complex, horn-like scatting and vocalese, ...

Dear Miles CD (2006)
Payton Crossley albums DEAR MILES, released in 2007, has Carter tackling 10 Miles tunes (or tunes that Miles helped make famous). Orfeu CD (1999)
Payton Crossley discography The great Ron Carter continues his intermittent love affair with Brazilian music, joined by a somewhat unlikely cast of characters. Guitarist Bill Frisell delivers yet another of his superb sideman performances, including a pinpoint harmonic dissection of "Goin' Home," Carter's bossa nova adaptation of Dvorak's "New World Symphony." The ...

Return to Form CD (2003)
Payton Crossley albums Onaje Allan Gumbs is a highly acclaimed pianist among his fellow jazz musicians, though it is surprising that this veteran has not recorded as a leader more often. This 2000 live set taped at the Blue Note finds him in great form, accompanied by Marcus McLaurine (one of Clark Terry's first-call bassists), drummer Payton Crossley, percussionist Gary Fritz, and on some tracks, saxophonist René McLean. Gumbs' innovative approach to John Coltrane's "Equinox" is marvelous; it's set to a Latin rhythm, substituting the bassline vamp from "A Love Supreme," while also quoting several other works ...

Ahmad Jamal Live At Bubba's CD (1980)
Although Ahmad Jamal's recording career was erratic at this period, his live performances were as good as his earlier work. Teamed up with bassist Sabu Adeyola and drummer Payton Crossley, Jamal interprets a diverse program highlighted by "Waltz for Debbie" and "I've Never Been In Love Before," although recording "People" was probably a mistake. ~ Scott Yanow
