Rockinitis CD (1989)
Sonny George albums Rock writer Richard Blackburn once claimed that rockabilly singer/guitarist Ronnie Dawson resembled "a waxed, brush-cut Dorian Gray with eye makeup," and it's impossible to improve on such a description. Not only does the Texas-bred rockabilly cat look exactly the same as he did when he burst onto the scene in the late '50s, but he sings and plays like no time has elapsed. By the '90s, the majority of original rockabilly stars were dead, retired, or playing the nostalgia circuit. But Dawson--also known as The Blonde Bomber--was still making vital, exciting music like ROCKINITIS, a scorching set recorded in 1989 but not released until 1996. Delivering wild rockabilly rave-ups like "Shim Sham Shimmy," "Yum Yum Yum," the title track, and the aptly named "Knock Down Drag Out," ROCKINITIS puts latter-day pretenders to the rockabilly throne in their place.
