Spooner Oldham Biography
At the heart of the southern blue eyed soul scene since the 1960s, Artist is a songwriter, producer, and session keyboardist. Born Dewey Lyndon Oldham, Jr. in the tiny Alabama town of Center Star, Oldham began playing piano and organ at producer Rick Hall's FAME Studios in nearby Muscle Shoals in the early 1960s. Teaming up with songwriter Dan Penn, Oldham co-wrote hits like the Box Tops' "Cry Like A Baby" and James & Bobby Purify's "I'm Your Puppet." Oldham went on to record and tour with acts ranging from Neil Young and Bob Dylan to the Drive-By Truckers.
