The King Übü Örchestrü was a side project of reed-meister Wolfgang Fuchs and trombone splatter kind Radu Malfatti. Also incorporated into the madness were Phil Wachsmann, Paul Lytton, Luc Houtcamp, Peter Van Bergen, Melvyn Poore, and others. Other than a conventional rhythm section, there was nothing conventional about King Übü, and that's certainly in evidence here. Along with the reeds and brass there are all manner of electronics gurgling through these eight "Translations." What they are translations of exactly isn't very clear, and the approach seems not only to deconstruct the process of collective improvisation through sound, but also to deconstruct sound through the re-contextualization of how it functions in a large group and in individual fragments, or, in this case, "intervals."
