Mosaic CD (2006)
Young & Rollins music CDs The sensual, rhythmic acoustic guitar music of Young & Rollins may make one assume that the duo is from south of the border, but actually they're from Washington, D.C. Regardless, the talented guitarists have incorporated their Latin influences--flamenco, samba, salsa, bossa nova, and Latin jazz--seamlessly on MOSAIC, creating a lilting style that is at once passionate, soothing, and diverse. This lovely disc comes highly recommended to fans of Ottmar Liebert, Acoustic Alchemy, and the Gipsy Kings.

Esperanza CD (2005)
Young & Rollins discography There's usually an implied criticism in stating that an artist's latest work is simply "more of the same," but nothing untoward is meant in this case. Esperanza continues the same creative path as Dan Young and Lawson Rollins' earlier albums, but it does so flawlessly, refining the duo's sound to its essence. Backed by a percussionist (Alfredo Mojica, who also adds an expressive lead vocal to "Twanee") and an electric bass player, Young & Rollins' neo-flamenco takes in some jazz, Afro-Cuban, and classical elements, but the focus always remains on the driving forward motion of the duo's intertwined acoustic guitars. Proof that music can be technically flawless without lacking wit or soul, Esperanza is Young & Rollins' best album to this point. ~ Stewart Mason

Sevilla CD (2001)
Young & Rollins songs Part of the new flamenco movement along with Ottmar Liebert and Strunz & Farah, the guitar duo of Dan Young and Lawson Rollins plays the particular Spanish style with a contemporary jazz and new age attitude. While acknowledging the classical tradition carried on by such luminaries as Paco de Lucia, Young & Rollins also showcase their formidable guitar technique against the occasional funky, finger-slap bassline. Taken as a whole, the combination creates an interesting rub of traditions -- funk meets flamenco. Although Sevilla is full of real grit and passion for Spanish music, the other, more contemporary tradition in the smooth genre of eschewing solos in favor of endlessly repeated melodic themes renders these tracks somewhat anonymous. That said, Young & Rollins do seem to have an excitement for performing that comes through in many of the well-executed arrangements that build the tension to more than a few hot conclusions. ~ Matt Collar

Salsa Flamenca CD (2000)
Young & Rollins CD discography The two musicians who make up the duo Young & Rollins met in a music store only a few months before they began performing together in public. Their collaboration was an instant success, as they branched out from traditional flamenco guitar music to include rhythmic elements of other styles, like salsa, blues, jazz, and reggae. Salsa Flamenca continues and builds upon this trend, bringing a fresh sound to contemporary flamenco music while not wandering too far ...
