| | A Triggering Myth Forgiving Eden CD (2002)
$14.05 Scott and Vic were able to introduce elements of fusion to the band's typical symphonic orientation. In order to accomplish this, ATM members Rick Eddy and Tim Drumheller decided to expand their lineup for the recording, enlisting noted guitarist Scott McGill and drummer Vic Stevens. With pieces such as the opener "You May," the twosome melds lushly melodic acoustic-electric interludes with jazz grooves and ethereal synth treatments. Recording as A Triggering Myth, prog rock/fusion artists, drummer Vic Stevens and guitarist Scott McGill, augment the dual keyboard attack of Rick Eddy and Tim Drumheller on this most interesting 2002 effort, Forgiving Eden. ~ Glenn Astarita
For their fifth album, the instrumental rock duo of A Triggering Myth decided to compose a long form progressive rock symphony - 'Forgiving Eden' - a single 43 minute composition. Through it all, the musicians' densely orchestrated compositions hit the mark, as Stevens and McGill triumphantly succeed at sustaining the listener's attention throughout this undeniably attractive and intelligently constructed production. Musical reference points include the Canterbury sounds of Soft Machine and National Health as well as symphonic rock stalwarts Happy the Man and Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso. They conjure up memories of Britain's fabled prog rock Canterbury Scene via an abundance of majestically stated choruses and twisting rhythmic endeavors. The results will speak to fans of both progressive rock and fusion. McGill and Stevens add a jazz-fusion type-edge to certain tracks, as Eddy and Drumheller also implement synth horn sequences and minor shifts in strategy. The band's suave demeanor carries forth throughout the entire set, amid pieces that spark notions of strangely beautiful dreamscapes.
