The producer/MC known as Akir (short for Always Keep It Real) first caught attention for his work with Immortal Technique on REVOLUTIONARY VOL. Decrying the hypocrisy and manipulative double-speak of politicians on "Politricks," he raps: "I don't follow the news they just add to my blues/politicians and they big feats could never fill my shoes," echoing the frustration felt by urban youth faced with more immediate concerns. Possessing a tough, no-nonsense lyrical flow that recalls the literate street poetics of Nas at his most politically engaged, this is an album that pulls no punches in its scathing indictment of the state of American affairs, not to mention the base materialism of much of the hip-hop community.
Akir's fiercely intelligent, grimly resonant rhymes display a mastery of technique, as well providing insightful commentary. THE LEGACY is the debut release of New York-based rapper Akir (whose name is an acronym for Always Keeping It Real).
