The Music and the Man. During 2000 and 2001 he toured with his own trio throughout the country, receiving rave reviews and producing two live CD's. Johnson. Recorded on a rebuilt vintage 1858 Chickering square grand piano, an instrument with a uniquely rich, deep and mellow tone. Asaro has performed world wide as a soloist and with a wide variety of jazz and musical legends as Marian McPartland, Steve Allen, Leon Redbone, Jim Galloway, Neville Dickie, Barrett Deems, William Russo, Jon-Erik Kellso, Duke Heitger, Vince Giordano, Brian Ogilvie, and Orange Kellin. Known worldwide as a member of the increasingly exclusive club of great Harlem Stride pianists, Asaro here shows off his Jelly Roll Morton chops, blending together a well balanced mix of Morton's swinging stomps and haunting tangos with some of Scott Joplin's lesser heard works and relaxed melodic examples from the stride school of Willie "The Lion" Smith and James P. He has played the part of "The Professor" along side Vernel Bagneris in the New York Off Broadway production and national tour of Jelly Roll! Starting in 1995, Asaro became house pianist aboard the legendary steamboat Mississippi Delta Queen, based in New Orleans. In 1998, he started a long run playing solo piano at "Julia's in Wallingford" in Seattle, WA.
