The technicolor mess of jagged opener "Eyes of Light" serves as the perfect intro into the band's sonce world: Drummer Allison Busch beats the daylights out of her drums as her two bandmates try to keep pace. Singer-guitarist Derek Stanton can't decide whether to shred or sing, so he makes time for both; where his guitar playing is frantic, his vocals are urgent, lending the album an appropriate weight and a depth not heard on their debut. While not exactly blazing new ground, they retread their own scorched brand of cruddy psych with glee and a willful stubbornness. The aptly named, Brooklyn-via-Michigan trio Awesome Color unleash their second record, ELECTRIC ABORIGINES, for Thurston Moore's Ecstatic Peace label.
