Kevin Ayers / John Cale / Brian Eno / Nico Biography
Kevin Ayers was a founding member of the British art rock outfit the Soft Machine, and was a key figure in the late-1960s Canterbury scene, which was year zero for the British prog rock movement. Ayers left the Soft Machine in 1968 to pursue a solo career. While his own music maintained the cerebral edge of his previous band, it was also marked by a decidedly pop-oriented approach. Ayers, who was once asked to be the replacement for Jim Morrison in the Doors, continued to record and perform into the new millennium.
