| | Baby Strange Make-Out Sessions CD (2004)
$6.39 September 2002 saw the release of the band's first EP, The Make-Out Sessions. From the straight-ahead rock n roll of "If I Didn't Know Better" to the Smiths-influenced "Why Didn't You Fall" and the unstoppable energy of "Hotel Motel," The Make-Out Sessions captures the essence of Artist Described as "a thunderstorm or a volcano, flashing black and red, crashing one moment and blazing the next," the band's live show and a growing fan base has led to opening slots with such national acts as Cinerama, Radio 4, The Vines, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and the Mooney Suzuki. "It's never cliche because we really feel it." Artist also includes Kristoffer Ehrig (Guitar, Vocals), Ryan Ennis (Drums), Jason Horvath (Bass Guitar), and Hugh Wyman (Lead Guitar). Artist also plays regionally from New York City to Portland and has embarked on a tour of the Midwest. Each track showcases the band's growing maturity as songwriters and performers. Since their first show in February of 2000, Artist has built a reputation as one of the best live bands in Boston and beyond. "The songs are about things people can relate to: sex, heartbreak, feeling alone, feeling overwhelmed," says singer and primary songwriter Eric Deneen. Artist formed in 1999 while searching through the Boston music scene for a worthwhile endeavor. Artist puts genuine feeling and soul into their songwriting and performance. Boston's Artist combines the energy and ideals of their combined influences to create a sound described as "white hot rock n roll." The band channels this by taking their cues from such legends as the Rolling Stones, David Bowie and U2. The five songs were recorded at Q Division Studios in Sommerville, MA with producer Brian Brown, who has worked with Juliana Hatfield and Buffalo Tom singer Bill Janovitz. Finally meeting through friends and auditions, the band immediately began working on original material.
