 Bananarama Biography
Harking back to the best of the girl-group era, Bananarama was an adorably droll British vocal trio who briefly hit it big on both sides of the Atlantic in the 1980s. They combined an au courant waif-like androgyny with a vulnerable feminine grace, and updated the '60s covers with a smart, modern sensibility. After several radio and video hits, the pinnacle being their electro-pop version of the Shocking Blue's "Venus" from 1986, Bananarama lost singer Siobhan Fahey (who married the Eurhythmics' Dave Stewart and started a new group, Shakespeare's Sister). The group carried on with new member Jacquie O'Sullivan until the mid '90s, never quite topping their '80s success. In 2005, Bananarama--just Woodward and Dallin this time--released an acclaimed comeback album.
