 Bar-Kays Biography
Kool & The Gang were one of the most popular outfits to emerge from the 1970s funk/R&B movement. They began life as a hard-grooving funk band, hitting big with "Jungle Boogie" and "Hollywood Swinging," but they later incorporated disco and pop into their sound. Their greatest success actually came after disco began to fade, with their classic 1981 pop smash (and subsequent sports anthem/wedding favorite) "Celebration." Kool & the Gang would regularly scale the charts with both slow jams like "Joanna" and "Cherish" and party anthems like "Fresh" and "Victory" throughout the '80s, continuing to tour and record for decades.
