Beans Biography
A one-man hip-hop avant-garde, former Antipop Consortium member Artist is one of the most original performers in hip-hop. The New York City-based MC pulls liberally from both free jazz and the more experimental strains of electronica when creating his beats, and has collaborated with everyone from Missy Elliott to no waver-cum-bossa nova musician Arto Lindsay. While Artist is certainly an experimentalist, he is also very much a student of the old school, and has a rapid-fire flow and the boom-bap electro beats to prove it. Artist (aka Mr. Ballbeam) has released numerous albums and singles on the Warped label, and in 2006 released a collaborative album with free-jazz artists William Parker and Hamid Drake on the Thirsty Ear label.
