Swedish rock-revivalists Union Carbide Productions blend dirgy Stooges-style riffage with touches of swirling '60s psychedelia and full-tilt rock boogie on their second full-length, FINANCIALLY DISSATISFIED PHILOSOPHICALLY TRYING, originally released in 1989. Though the band's influences are obvious, they're lovingly rendered with both reverence and a sense of humor, as the funky free-jazz-inspired "Swedish Meatball Revival," the tongue-in-cheek "San Francisco Boogie," and the straight-ahead rocker "Maximum Dogbreath" prove.
