On 2007's CEX CELLS, AFI members Davey Havok and Jade Puget fully embrace their love of 1980s New Wave with their side project Blaqk Audio. A lively set of moody synth-pop, the album is impressive in its meticulous dedication to the style, as evinced on the propulsive "Stiff Kittens," which could fit almost seamlessly on a late-'80s Depeche Mode disc, and "Semiotic Love," a romantic, beat-driven track that finds Havok getting in touch with his inner Andy Bell (Erasure).
