 Pat Boone Biography
An icon and an institution, this alleged descendent of Daniel Boone is a dependable hit-maker who kept clean-cut American youth entertained throughout the 1950s with skillful pop crooning and wholesome showmanship. Boone had a staggering 38 Top 40 hits, putting him in the record-selling ranks of Elvis, Madonna, and the Beatles. Many of these hits were "respectable," cleaned-up versions of raunchier R&B numbers originally performed by black artists. While this did little to endear Pat Boone to black musicians or their fans, it did provide the blueprint for making rock-&-roll (and subsequent controversial styles) palatable to the masses. After almost 50 years in show business, and many albums of both a secular and gospel-oriented nature, Boone had a late-career triumph with his humorous heavy-metal covers album.
