Turkish-born drummer Freddie Brocksieper, nicknamed "Brocksi," is a pioneering but neglected figure from the early German jazz scene. Most of the sides are swinging foxtrots performed by the Brocksi-Quartett, but a few cuts feature unorthodox large ensembles consisting of several trombonists and a rhythm section. Globetrotter collects 24 Brunswick recordings from 1942-1943, plus two sides from a previously unissued test recording made in 1941. Sometimes described as the German Gene Krupa, Brocksieper put together an excellent rhythm group in the early '40s that included Primo Angeli on piano, Josse Breyre on trombone, and Otto Tittmann on bass. The title track, "Globetrotter," is one of these, credited to the Brocksieper Solisten-Orchester. This small group, billed as the Brocksi-Quartett, was a swinging dance band that recorded in Berlin for Brunswick during World War II.
