 Don Byron Biography
Born in the Bronx, New York, visionary Jazz clarinetist Don Byron has displayed a ravenous appetite for experimenting in an almost bewildering number of worlds. Playing with the jazz world's perceptions of race and culture has been an ongoing theme throughout Byron's work since he tumbled onto the scene with 1992's TUSKEEGEE EXPERIMENTS. The album was an instant sensation in avant-garde worlds and within the Knitting Factory scene, and propelled Byron to explore numerous styles from Latin jazz to hip-hop to klezmer. He teamed up with Jack DeJohnette and Jason Moran for 2004's IVEY-DIVEY, an acclaimed tribute to legendary saxophonist Lester Young.
