 Cake Biography
Cake's colorful cross-genre take on 1990s alt-rock produced a surprisingly consistent parade of radio hits (including a stripped-down cover of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive"), and filled a void on the charts left by Camper Van Beethoven and They Might Be Giants. The Bay Area ensemble's infusing of rock with jazz, lounge, funk, country, and hip-hop was accomplished with equal parts irony and true reverence for those disparate styles.
