"Low Center of Gravity" quietly marches to gentle but ominous vocals and finally turns to Sonic Youth dissonance in the end. On "Honor Among Thieves," shimmering, off-kilter, jazz-inflected textures mingle beneath Fugazi-style shouting matches. Tekulvi's angular rock fits the sound of their hometown, Chicago. Though not as unabashedly original as Chicago transplants Milemarker, Tekulvi holds their own. The band layers intense, repetitive rhythms with out-of-control guitar lines for a result that is part hardcore, part post-rock. In Recognition of Your Significant Accomplishments is not Tekulvi's pinnacle, but it shows that they are on their way. "Distance and Focus" spins out of control, thanks in part to a guest appearance from Steve Sostak of Sweep the Leg Johnny on saxophone.
