 Gene Clark Biography
A key member of the classic original line-up of the Byrds, Gene Clark helped invent folk-rock in the mid '60s and wrote several of their classic songs, including "Feel a Whole Lot Better" and "Eight Miles High." After his 1967 departure, Clark recorded masterpieces with Doug Dillard and the Gosdin Brothers that pioneered the fusion of country and rock. He perfected this highly poetic, layered country-rock as a solo artist on 1971's underappreciated WHITE LIGHT and 1974's baroque NO OTHER. He later collaborated again with his former Byrds bandmates in McGuinn, Hillman & Clark, and with singer Carla Olson in 1987. He died in 1991 due to alcoholism.
