 Willie Colon Biography
Puerto Rican music legend Willie Colón became one of the early signings to the emergent Fania Records label at the age of 17. His groundbreaking blend of Puerto Rican and Cuban rhythms, infused with West African, Panamanian, and Brazilian elements made him one of the highest profile Latin artists in the United States. His long association with Rubén Blades produced a highly successful series of albums between 1977 and 1982, including CANCIONES DEL SOLAR DE LOS ABURRIDOS, which was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1983. Colón also teamed up with legendary Cuban vocalist, Celia Cruz for several acclaimed albums. By the dawn of the new millennium, Colón was viewed not only as a music icon, but also as something of a cultural/socio-political ambassador of the Puerto Rican people.
