| | Introducing Kenny Cox CD (1968)
$17.59 This fine date will interest fans of the style and the era.
Kenn Cox (Piano): Kenny Cox (piano); Leon Henderson (tenor saxophone); Charles Moore (trumpet); Ron Brooks (bass instrument); Danny Spencer (drums) Instead this is classic 1960s hard bop complete with swinging, uptempo pulses, athletic runs, and plenty of technical prowess all around. INTRODUCING rarely ranges left of center (although some of the solos reveal the influence of the freer trends of the time). His debut, appropriately titled INTRODUCING KENNY COX, was originally released in 1968, and was reissued in 2007. Hard-bop pianist Kenny Cox released two solo albums in the late 1960s exhibiting his highly accessible style.

| Artist appears on More Warhead CD (1981)
$9.69 At times, Warhead sounds like it was manufactured directly from the school of rock, with compositions taking a page from the books of Zeppelin, Skynyrd (especially on the wildly erratic "Depression"), Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath. It's a peculiarly strong debut, but will be of very little interest to anyone but the most die-hard metal fans. Simply put, the band just flat-out rocks, taking tight grooves and crunchy power chord riffs and placing them all over guitarist/lead singer Kenny Cox's blues-infused guitar shredding, which obviously owes considerable debt to Jimmy Page. A sorely underrated band with a sound derived just as much from Southern rock roots as the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, More had polish and basic song structures that made the group much more accessible than many of its counterparts.

| Artist appears on Etta Jones Best Of Etta Jones: The Prestige Singles CD (2002)
$8.29 Recorded between 1960 and 1963, these did all happen to be released on singles, as the title indicates, though it's sometimes forgotten that there were still jazz tracks being issued as singles in the 1960s. And as this compilation draws 18 tracks from the most commercially and artistically successful phase of her career, it might be the best place to start for hearing her work. Of course, the most popular of those was "Don't Go to Strangers," which actually made the pop Top 40 in 1960. While Etta Jones could not be placed into the very top tier of jazz singers, she was a good one.
