Guitarist Gregory James composes arrangements that reflect freedom and change. Breathing Rumi and incanting America. Mixing the saz and saxophone, vinyl, violin and voice. Urban groove, Northern Indian, Folk, Brazilian percussion and classic Jazz, this music threads together the sounds of where gypsies traveled with a modern urban sound. Brazilian musician Celia Malheiros adds percussion to the tone of Rasaki Aladokun talking drum and congas.
Recorded at OTR Studios, Belmont, California in May 2001.
Personnel: Gregory James (guitar, saz); Catie Murphy (spoken vocals, viola); Craig Easley (spoken vocals); Jenny Scheinman (violin); Baron Shul (flute, saxophone); Peter Horvath (keyboards); Kai Eckhardt (synthesizer, bass guitar); Deszon X. Craig Easley reads his words to the vinyl undertones of DJ Fly, while Peter Horvath, Jenny Scheinman, Catie Murphy and Baron Shul intertwine string, wind and keyboard melodies. He is joined by Kai Eckhardt on bass, formerly of the John McLaughlin Trio, and Deszon Claiborne on drums. It is at the end of the line that improvisation begins.
