The trio's interplay is highly dynamic, and the musicians display a remarkable sense of intuitive grace towards the flow of the music. TRANSONIC, his debut as a leader, displays these strengths in full, along with a newfound compositional gift.
The eight tracks here form a kind of circular suite, with a handful of themes resurfacing in ever-changing form throughout. Drummer Whit Dickey's distinct behind-the-beat sensibility, and his uncanny knack for detonating the spaces between the notes, were shown to great effect on a series of classic albums he made with the David S. Ware Quartet and that group's Matthew Shipp in the mid-90's.
