 Dixie Dregs Biography
Led by virtuosic guitarist/composer Steve Morse, the Dixie Dregs (later simply the Dregs) added a new wrinkle to jazz-rock fusion in its mid-'70s heyday by throwing in a touch of Allmans-influenced country flavor. Morse's guitar and Allen Sloan's fiddle comfortably melded fusion frenzy with homey twang. The music grew even more intense with the arrival of hotshot keyboardist T Lavitz for NIGHT OF THE LIVING DREGS. The group broke up in the '80s, the mercurial Morse moving from solo work to a commercial pilot career and a stint with Deep Purple, before the band reunited in the late '90s.
