Two CD continuous in-the-mix collection mixed by DJ Kris Bones. The German collective Terranova are most represented, scoring 9 out of the 23 tracks (including efforts remixed by the likes of Stereo MCs and Psychonauts). This is a continuous in-the-mix CD compiled and mixed by DJ Kris Bones.
This two-disc set may be simply another in a seemingly endless list of chill-out mixes by all but unknown DJs, but by keeping his source material down to a small handful of artists and DJs (including a few recent dubs by Lee "Scratch" Perry), DJ Kris Bones manages to avoid the all too common "CD player in shuffle mode" effect. Anyone who likes this will find plenty more where this came from. As the title suggests, the emphasis is on European lounge and trip-hop. International Lounge: London, Paris, Berlin, New York, Tokyo is both a worthwhile snapshot of a particular time and place in electronic dance music and a useful sampler for those unfamiliar with the form, since there are few tracks here that are particularly idiosyncratic or otherwise not representative of the style. Their dreamy but danceable "Chase the Blues" both the set's high point and its archetype: subtle but insistent rhythms, floating near-ambient electronic keyboards, and just enough of a bass pulse to make the whole thing move.
