 Ian Dury Biography
Ian Dury started out as an art teacher with a love of jazz and R&B, but with the rise of UK pub-rock's DIY aesthetic, he formed Kilburn & the High Roads, where his gifts as a humorous, witty, highly literate wordsmith soon became apparent. With the ascendance of punk and new wave, he streamlined his sound with Ian Dury & the Blockheads, and scored highly influential hits with "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll," "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick," and "Reasons to Be Cheerful." Tirelessly creative, Dury continued working until cancer claimed his life in 2000. After his death, Dury was given numerous all-star tributes in the UK and hailed as a national treasure.
