 Generation X Biography
One of the first truly successful bands of the first wave of British punk, Generation X (or Gen X, as they were later called) boasted the charismatic singing and movie-star pout/sneer of Billy Idol, and hooky, danceable, though relatively apolitical, tunes that bridged the gap between raw punk and classic 1960s pop. The band released two charting albums in the late '70s, and broke up while recording the third. Billy Idol went on to become an MTV heartthrob, and guitarist Tony James led the trendy youthquakers Sigue Sigue Sputnik.
