 Heavenly Biography
Oxford, England's Heavenly was formed in 1989 by former members of twee pop progenitors Talulah Gosh. Like Talulah Gosh, Heavenly played light, charming pop that blended the sweetness of `60s girl group music with the D.I.Y. aesthetic of indie rock. Their full-length debut, HEAVENLY VS. SATAN, came out in 1991. For its follow-up the band recruited singer Cathy Rogers, whose harmonies with founding vocalist Amelia Fletcher gave the group their distinctive sound. Heavenly's next two albums, 1994's THE DECLINE AND FALL OF HEAVENLY and 1996's OPERATION HEAVENLY, found the outfit moving in a more commercial, Britpop-oriented direction. Heavenly disbanded in 1996.
