 Hydra Biography
Following a brief stint in Napalm Death and the dissolution of his seminal industrial-metal project, Godflesh, Justin Broadrick made a dramatic about-face with his next project, Jesu. Though the band contains elements of both metal and industrial's punishing textures, Jesu in fact offers a beautiful variation on the shoegaze sounds of My Bloody Valentine and the like, with elements of ambient and outright pop cropping up as well. This may seem an unlikely step for Broadrick, but it works perfectly, as the listener is happily crushed by oceanic waves of sound only to be lifted sky-high by gorgeous melodies. Jesu has been embraced by a wide swath of the indie and underground music community and has toured with experimental metal bands such as Isis and Pelican.
