 Jesus & Mary Chain Biography
Scottish brothers Jim and William Reid formed the Jesus & Mary Chain in 1984. With their monotone vocals, feedback-drenched guitar sound, and notoriously chaotic gigs, the band garnered plenty of media attention and then backed up the hype with their stunning debut, PSYCHOCANDY. Throughout their history, additional members came and went--including Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie--but the Reid brothers always remained the volatile core of the group. In the fall of 1998, Jim and William had a falling out on stage in Los Angeles, and the band effectively ceased to exist, though the official end wasn't announced until the following year. Since then, numerous indie bands have cited the Jesus & Mary Chain as a major influence.
