The title track "Gathering Leaves" is also contemplative and mysterious given its gradual, almost impressionistic, harmonic development. Each piece seems to be communicating something that may never be fully identified or understood. Although it is dark and moody, GATHERING LEAVES is quite engaging. Drawing inspiration from nature and rural life, this pastoral album mixes sweet melodies with portentous chords and large, reverb-drenched production.
Tracks such as "First Snow" and "Unharvested" are decidedly bleak, as ambient keyboard effects wrap the listener in a blanket of loneliness. Both pieces blend wide-eyed reverie with a kind of calm resignation. Artist's GATHERING LEAVES features 11 piano compositions, supplemented by airy keyboard effects, lush backing strings, and bass. Other titles such as "Pale Unkempt Hours" and "Distanced" suggest despair and detachment, respectively.
