This San Francisco band's first album is a study in contradictions, presenting heavy, often melancholy, themes in the guise of catchy, tuneful power pop. "How's It Going To Be" has a palpable sense of nostalgia and loss.

While you won't find a "Semi-Charmed" on BLUE, there is enough thoughtful, well-crafted pop to keep the band in the grace of its fans. Third Eye Blind has enough vision to swerve clear of the sophomore jinx.
