 Franklin Kiermyer Biography
As arguably John Coltrane's most important follower, Pharoah Sanders was instrumental in furthering the idea of avant-garde jazz as both a spiritual medium and a musical one. His collaborations with Coltrane are some of the most crucial examples of free jazz ever made, and his solo work continued to expand and redefine the boundaries of the form. As Sanders career progressed he moved away from freedom principles--delving into pop and returning to traditional bop--yet continued to be a challenging and mercurial artist, performing and recording into the new millennium.
