 Chuck Mangione Biography
Formally trained on trumpet at the Eastman School of Music, Chuck Mangione earned his stripes playing for Maynard Ferguson, Art Blakey, and Woody Herman in the 1960s. By the early '70s, he had begun recording his own albums, using the flugelhorn as his main instrument. The instrument's fatter, less brassy sound lent itself well to the Latin-inflected, easy-going jazz numbers that Mangione was writing. He had a bona fide pop hit in 1978 with the bubbly instrumental "Feels So Good," and also penned the themes for the '76 and '80 Olympics. He has released more than 30 albums in his long-running career, and has even appeared as a recurring character on the animated TV show KING OF THE HILL.
