Sure it's heavy, sure there's lots of metallic guitar crunches, and sure enough they're pretty angry, but the Shai Hulud aren't a bunch of muscleheads. Wow, this is intense! It doesn't even matter that there are only three songs on A Profound Hatred of Man, it's good enough to influence another page in the maturity of hardcore. Instead, there's more of a developed, complex sound to the point where each song will fly into a hundred different directions before it ends; it's more "grown up" in comparison to all the hard guy mentality that's infiltrated the hardcore scene. This is definitely a sign of better things to come.
