 Jimmy Mcgriff Biography
Another successful practitioner of the funky-blues and soul-jazz sound to which the Hammond B-3 was so suited, Jimmy McGriff had a top 5 R&B hit with his first single in 1962, "I Got a Woman," and continued to tour and record into the 21st century. His longtime association with prime funky drummer Bernard Purdie was one key to this success. McGriff also established fruitful partnerships with saxmen Hank Crawford and David "Fathead" Newman. He died from multiple sclerosis in 2008 at age 72.
